Minimalist Running Shoes
Minimalist Road Running Shoes are designed to promote an efficient and natural running style. Minimalist running shoes have less cushioning, minimal or no support and are always neutral allowing your feet to function as though they were barefoot.
Some consider that they improve the efficiency of the running stride and reduce running related injuries primarily because, by landing on your mid or forefoot rather than your heel, you reduce the amount of impact absorbed by your ankles, hips and knees. However this has not been proved conclusively.
If you would prefer to adopt this style of running then it is recommended that you 'train' your feet and leg muscles to adapt to the changes in cushioning and the lack of differential (the height loss from the shoe's heel to the toe) in the shoes, and this requires either a gradual transition between increasingly minimalist shoes or a training programme which gradually increases the amount of time spent running in the shoes.
