This is our list of what most Mountain Marathon Events such as the OMM and Saunders, ask you to carry. Whilst we have tried to be comprehensive, it is always best to check with individual event details and requirments as they can vary.
Where possible, we have included links to suitable products and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch on (01539) 731012 or else email jon@peteblandsports.co.uk
Most events specify items that ALL COMPETITORS must carry and that ALL TEAMS must carry. We have broken this list down into this.
Each competitor must usually carry:
Footwear - Suitable for use in the mountains i.e. fell running/trail shoes or boots (some events specify a minimum tread depth of 4mm) Shop Men's | Shop Women's
Rucksack - Capable of carrying all the kit outlined below
Sleeping Bag - A sleeping mat will also make a big difference to your overnight warmth and comfort.
Survival Bag – a Bag NOT a Space Blanket.
Waterproof Jacket & Trousers - both with taped seams Shop Men's Waterproofs | Shop Women's Waterproofs
Long Trousers / thermal leggings or similar – NOT cotton Shop Men's Legwear | Shop Women's Legwear
Thermal Layer - Shop Men's Thermals | Shop Women's Thermals
Warm thicker top - Shop Men's | Shop Women's
Some events will ask you to carry spare baselayers (top and bottoms) in addition those you intend to run in.
Hat & Gloves - Most events don't consider a neck tube or Buff to be a hat. Headwear needs to be warm. Waterproof gloves or a copule of pairs of thinner ones often works well.
Socks inc. a spare pair - Its worth taking a couple for the overnight camp.
Torch - (suitable for emergency night navigation with useable light lasting at least 12hrs)
Waterproof pen / pencil and paper
Map
Mobile phone for safety purposes
Each team must carry the following at all times:
Tent - with sewn in groundsheet, poles and pegs
Stove & fuel, matches/lighter – with Emergency fuel remaining at the end of Day 2
Food for 2 days including your Emergency food which you will still have with you when you finish Day 2. If you have eaten your Emergency food before the Finish then you will have experienced an Emergency and consequently be assumed to have retired.
Plasters and bandage - some evnts specify a more comprehensive First Aid Kit, it is also carrying some blister plasters
